Overview
Trekker is a mobile app for digital nomads and others who live on the road. We built it to explore mobile design and to test how travel and social features work together in one product. It is now in beta on iOS and Android.
With no client brief, the experiment set its own questions. How should an app feel for someone whose home changes every few weeks, and what do they need from the people around them?
We designed and built Trekker in React Native, so one codebase runs on both iOS and Android, and put it in front of nomads to test.
Product
Travel and social in one app
Travel apps usually handle logistics, and social apps handle people. Trekker explores what happens when one app does both.
What We Did
- Mapped the journey from planning at home to the trail and back.
- Designed an offline status that shows what is ready before setting off.
Engineering
One codebase for iOS and Android
As an experiment, Trekker needed to reach both platforms without doubling the work.

- Released a beta for testing
Outcome
A beta that shapes how we design for mobile
Trekker is in beta with nomad testers. As a Ghost Labs project, it gives us room to try mobile design ideas that we can bring to client products.
